About this masterpiece
About this masterpiece
In 1868, they walked 300 miles back home. This shirt carries the map.
In 1864, U.S. soldiers marched roughly 10,000 Diné — the Navajo people — more than 300 miles from their homeland to a barren camp at Fort Sumner, New Mexico. The Diné named it Hwéeldi, the place of suffering. For four years they held on to one idea: home was still there, held between four sacred mountains.
Then something happened that almost never happened in American history. In 1868, Diné leaders — among them Barboncito — refused every offer of “better land” somewhere else. On June 1, 1868, the treaty was signed. Not a removal. A return. On June 18, the Diné started walking back — witnesses said the line of people stretched ten miles down the road. And when the walkers finally saw Tsoodził — Mount Taylor, the southern sacred mountain — elders dropped to their knees and wept, because the mountain meant the land had waited for them. The Diné became one of the only removed nations ever allowed to return to their homeland. Nearly every trail in American history is a story about leaving. This one is the story of coming home.
What’s on the shirt
- Back — the map of the return (approx. 12″ × 16″): an aged, 1860s survey-style documentary map. Fort Sumner in the east, the homeland Dinétah framed by four stepped peaks in the west, and a single red dashed route arcing 300 miles home. Headline: THE LONG WALK HOME · 1864–1868. Verdict line: MARCHED OUT. WALKED HOME.
- Front — left-chest badge (approx. 3.5″): four peaks around a small dashed path leading to a center star — THE WALK HOME · 1868. Subtle enough for every day; it starts the question the back answers.
- Every mark is documented history: the dates, the distance, the place names — nothing invented, nothing exaggerated.
- Made together with Native American artists and reviewed for cultural accuracy — geometric abstraction only, no sacred or ceremonial imagery.
The blank: Comfort Colors 1717 — heavyweight 100% ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed so it fades and softens like the document it carries. Unisex relaxed fit, true to size — size up for a roomier look (full size guide on the page below).

Marched out. Walked home. Wear the chapter they never taught.

Printing Techniques
Each tee is made with love using Direct-to-Garment (DTG) technology, where the ink bonds with the fabric for a vibrant, true-to-life design with a charming vintage touch. This process creates a look that’s both eye-catching and timeless while also being eco-friendly, ensuring a lasting impression that won’t fade after just a few washes.
For darker shirts, you might notice a slight stiffness in the printed area at first due to the special treatment that enhances color vibrancy. Don’t worry—it softens beautifully after just a few washes, leaving you with the same soft feel as the rest of the tee.
Every item is made to order, just for you! While we’re unable to offer returns or exchanges due to this custom process, we’re always here to help if you have any questions or concerns.

Heritage with Purpose
Designed with Native artists, to keep these stories alive.
You don't just wear it. You carry them.
Every design holds a name, a date, a number that history tried to make small. When you put it on, you keep that memory walking.
You become the one who refuses to let them be forgotten.
Drawn by hands that carry the story.
Every design is made by Native artists. The grief, the pride, the endurance. They live in every line.
What you wear was made by the people who lived it.
