Between 1830 and 1850, entire Native nations—Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw, Creek and others—were forced from their homelands under the Indian Removal Act. Thousands perished from exposure, disease, and starvation. Families were torn apart. Cultures were disrupted. An entire people were made to suffer for the expansion of a nation that was not their own.
Yet, in the face of devastation, Native communities endured. Their strength and resilience carried them forward, refusing to let their identity be erased.
