Her name was not “Unidentified Women”
I wear it for her.
They filed her under a category. You kept her name.
It was never only that she was gone. It was how it was written down. A box ticked, in calm handwriting, as if that settled it.
You know the words. Unresolved. Inactive. Insufficient information. Words that close a file before anyone has finished looking.
You are the one who keeps asking. Who noticed that one count was fifty times the other. It turns out that is a minority position now.
It was described as a gap in the data.
In 2016 the national crime database held 5,712 reports of missing Native American women and girls. The federal missing-persons database logged 116. No one knows the real number.Urban Indian Health Institute, “Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls,” 2018

Four illustrators each drew the same words in their own hand: carved linocut, stained glass, ledger ink and seed beads. From two shirts up, every shirt you buy on this page brings two free gifts in the same four designs, and you choose them: wooden ornaments, stickers, or a mix.
The ornament says We remember her. The sticker says No more stolen sisters. Your gifts do not have to match your shirts.

From Layla, founder of Americanista
Why these gifts are free
I ordered wooden ornaments and stickers in the same artwork as these shirts. I was told they would be here in early August.
August came and went. Then September. Still nothing.
They only arrived at the end of October, every last one of them. Honestly, it hurt to open those boxes so late.
By then the holidays were close, and storage for us costs the most right now. Keeping them on a shelf through the holidays would cost us more than they are worth.
So I made a call: I would rather they go home with you than sit in storage. For a limited time, they go out free with your set: from two shirts up, every shirt brings two free gifts, and you choose them: ornaments, stickers or one of each, in any of the four designs.
This offer comes down the day the last box is gone.
